Explore the wonderful history, art, and culture of France on this nine-day family adventure through some of the country’s most sought-after sites. Get to know Paris on foot, tour the cave dwellings in the lush, green Loire Valley, and study the strategy behind WWII operations in Normandy. From wandering the Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles to learning how to make your own crepes in ancient Bayeux, there will never be a shortage of Parisian treasures waiting to be found and experienced.
Arrive in time to meet your fellow travelers for a welcome gathering this evening. Your arrival transfer is included.
Start off with a walking tour of the Île de la Cité, in the heart of Paris. Cross the oldest bridge in Paris and spend the rest of the day exploring as you wish. Perhaps climb the steps of the Eiffel Tower, or visit the inside of the Louvre to see famous art like the "Mona Lisa" and the "Venus de Milo."
Today the group will travel to the village of Giverny to take in the home of painter Claude Monet. Afterwards, continue on to the port town of Honfleur. Enjoy lunch as a group and wander the streets of the town where the Seine meets the English Channel. Then travel to Bayeux, an ancient city where the group will staying for the next few days.
Learn all about the history surrounding D-Day and the battle to liberate France during a World War II historical experience today. The group will then climb aboard a military vehicle and drive to the nearby Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial. Then, spend free time in the afternoon getting to know historic Bayeux. Before a group dinner in the evening, learn how to make crepes.
Today’s adventure includes a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site, Mont-Saint-Michel off the Normandy coast. Enjoy an orientation walk and then use free time to explore the cobbled streets and maybe climb to the top of the island where the medieval abbey sits. Later, return to Bayeux where you can choose to see the Bayeux Tapestry, which colourfully traces the Norman conquest of England.
Leave Normandy today and travel to the Loire Valley in France. Visit some cliff-side caverns and walk inside some cave dwelling homes while learning about the geology of the region. Then, travel onwards to the ancient city of Blois and take advantage of a free evening to relax or explore this hillside city and its' many staircases.
First things this morning the group will enjoy a canoeing excursion along the Cher River. Paddle to this fairytale castle that spans the river called Château de Chenonceau. Afterwards, visit the last home of Leonardo da Vinci, known as the Château du Clos Lucé. The younger members of the group can pick a special “inventor’s notebook” and try their hand at inventing their own machine.
Visit the amazing Hall of Mirrors today on a trip to the Palace of Versailles. Wander between the magnificent rooms and splendid gardens on a guided tour and then return to Paris. Spend a free afternoon exploring the banks of the Seine, seeking out places to dry delicious French pastries, or shopping for souvenirs at boutiques. Enjoy a group farewell dinner in the evening.
