Get up close and personal with Bolivia’s stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage on this epic eight-day adventure. You'll travel to the Bolivian desert and have the most scenic picnic ever from atop the mirror-like Uyuni Salt Flats. Next up, a visit to a small local community to learn all about Indigenous life, then it's time to explore sky-high La Paz and the historic capital of Sucre before having dinner with a local family in a traditional hacienda. ◆After hopping on a flight to the city of Sucre the group will go on an orientation walk through the main square. Take advantage of free time in the afternoon to continue exploring on your own or book a more involved tour to get to know the city’s colonial architecture and historic sites.
◆After a free morning in Sucre the group will transfer to the southern highlands where you’ll stay in a historic hacienda. It’s a working farm that also offers travellers a rich cultural exchange with the resident family. After you spend some time seeing the whole farm you’ll have a farm-to-table dinner with your host family featuring tons of local specialties.
◆It’s a short drive to the centre of Potosí where you’ll go on a guided tour of the Casa Nacional de la Moneda. Afterwards, transfer to Uyuni which is home to the world’s largest salt flat. Drive across the mirror-like landscape and learn all about the role salt has played here.
◆Go further into the salt pans and stop for a visit to the small community of Coquesa, located at the base of the Tunupa Volcano on the edge of the Salar. Enjoy a guided walk to learn about local life. Then have lunch on Incahuasi Island before continuing the exploration of the desert and its pans. Finish today with a sunset picnic on the salt flats.
◆Return to La Paz today on a plane and take advantage of some free time before heading out for an optional dinner with the group.
◆Spend a free morning in La Paz, the highest capital city in the world. Choose to visit Valley of the Moon before setting out this afternoon by foot, van, and cable car to further explore the city. This evening the group will experience an interactive culinary demonstration at a local, well known, restaurant. A local chef will guide you through a sampling of a few dishes and talk about La Paz and the city’s growing culinary scene.
