The adventure

If you’re looking to free your spiritual side–with a backdrop of stunning beaches and jungles–Bali and Java are waiting. Travel by bicycle rickshaw to local markets and workshops, and get your “om” on at the Borobudur temple. Participate in a traditional cooking class with an expert chef. And of course, it wouldn’t be the full Balinese experience if you didn’t take some leisure time to relax on the picturesque beaches. It’s the perfect mix of beauty and Buddhist zen.

◆Arrive at any time. Transfer to the hotel and enjoy a welcome dinner.
◆Explore the city by cycle-rickshaws, including the Sultan's Palace, markets, and the batik and puppetry workshops of Yogya. Options include shopping, taking in a Wayang Kulit shadow puppet show, or a Ramayana dance performance.
◆Go on an excursion to the Borobudur temple complex.
◆Visit Prambanan, the largest Hindu temple complex in Java. Continue on to Surakarta (Solo), where we visit the Mangkunegaran Palace.
◆Take an excursion to the slopes of Mount Lawu including a visit to the Candi Cetho and Candi Sukuh Temples. Opt to visit the Batik Museum.
◆Journey to the colonial city of Malang.
◆Take a scenic excursion to Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park by jeep to catch the sunrise. We then ascend to the top of Mt Bromo -- part of the Tengger Caldera, the largest volcanic range in the area.
◆Catch a flight and transfer to Ubud, the cultural and artistic heart of Bali and our base for the next 3 nights.
◆Enjoy a cooking class with an expert local chef, who shows us how to prepare a traditional meal for lunch. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure.
◆Explore spiritual Bali, following mountain roads through the jungle to visit Tirta Empul Temple with its bubbling spring, said to hold curative powers. Continue to Gunung Kawi, a Hindu temple complex surrounded by terraced rice fields, then on to Kintamani, perched 1500m above sea level on the edge of a crater overlooking Lake Batur, with active Mount Batur towering above.
◆Head to the coastal village of Sanur and enjoy a visit to the southern beaches of Dream Land and Padang Padang and the Cliff top Uluwatu Temple.
◆Depart at any time.

Day 2Explore the city by cycle-rickshawsYogyakartaYogyakarta is very walkable and a stroll around the fascinating bird market is always interesting, and if silver is of interest, then a trip to Kota Gede is definitely worthwhile to pick up a hand-beaten bowl or some fine filigree. Of course, being the home of arts, this really is the place to take in a Wayang (puppet) show, or a dance performance- usually based on the Ramayana story.
