The Salt mountain range is the best place to watch the sunset, with its Mars and Moon Valleys, a product of the mineralogical folding that at sunset resemble a lunar landscape, part of the Los Flamencos National Reserve. Enjoy its extravagant shapes and fascinating surroundings. As the afternoon passes, enter the valley to enjoy one of the best views of the Andes Mountains and its volcanoes. Finally, at sunset, watch as the golden and red tones spread across the spectacular landscape, an unforgettable sight to behold.If you want to discover more of the area, we recommend taking part in our optional full-day excursion to Tatio Geysers and the village of Machuca*. We’ll visit several archeological sites, starting with Akahanga, Rano Raraku, and Ahu Tongariki, which are central to Rapa Nui culture, before breaking for lunch.Next, we’ll explore Vaihu, an interpretative Rapa Nui village featuring traditional houses, ovens, and chicken coops from ancient times. We’ll then visit Ahu Akahanga, which has a platform with 12 moai statues and an unrestored village. Continuing on, we’ll head to Ahu Tongariki, renowned for its 15 restored moai statues. At the Rano Raraku volcano, we’ll hike for an hour to see over 400 moai in various stages of carving, learning about their history and feeling the energy of the place. The tour will conclude at Anakena Beach, believed to be where the first king of Easter Island landed. Enjoy free time to relax on the white sand and swim in the clear water.
